Short Bio

Rolando Menchaca-Mendez is a Professor of the Network and Data Science Laboratory at the Computer Research Center of the Mexican National Polytechnic Institute. He received his Ph.D., in Computer Engineering from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 2009. He received the ANIEI best Mexican Master Thesis award in 1999 and is the co-recipient of the Best Paper Award at the IEEE MASS 2008. He co-authored the paper "STORM: A Framework for Integrated Routing, Scheduling and Traffic Management in Ad Hoc Networks" which was selected as spotlight Paper for the August 2012 issue of the IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing. He is a former CIO of the Mexican Ministry of Public Administration (SFP).

He has published more than 100 research papers in journals, conferences, and books. His current research interests include concurrent, distributed, approximated, randomized and metaheuristic algorithms as well as reinforcement learning with applications to combinatorial optimization and computer networks (including IoT, Fog Computing, VANETs, MANETs and P2P) in the context of Smart Cities.

He is very proud of the growing number of alumni, who include 12 Ph.D. graduates and 50 M.S. graduates.
